Golfing. Sort of.

We went golfing. Well, to a driving range.  Near Chilpo (small fishing village just north of us).  We noticed it after visiting the Dragon Temple, and stopped at the attached "pension" (senior home) to see if the range was open to the public.  It was. (Of course, the actual conversation with the Korean gentleman had a lot more gestures and smiles and nods and much less English than is implied here) So, we went the next day, nice and early before it got blazing hot, and hoped for the best.

The same man Nick had talked to again greeted us at the door and showed us all back to the range.  He found clubs to fit each of us, showed us where to get the baskets of balls, and how to load them into and operate the ball-dropper-things. Then he stood back and tried to watch us without giving advice. Sam and NIck have each golfed 9 holes before; Sherri has golfed 3; David and Elisabeth have never golfed.

The man was mostly successful, but sometimes he couldn't help himself and come over to gesture for us to center on the ball, etc.  He would regularly disappear, then come back and smile.  Eventually, another man came to golf, too. We tried not to humiliate ourselves too badly in front of him, though he did take a couple of breaks to watch us flailing about. Nick manage to loudly whack the I-beam above him with his club on a vigorous follow-through...

Our skills may be summarized thus:

Sam is a natural.  But he got serious thumb blisters.
Nick could get some serious distance. But was very sore the next day.
Sherri wished she was many pounds lighter to make her swings a bit less...rounded.
David was happy to chop at the balls.
Elisabeth... should stick with violin.

We all want to go again.  And at about $7.00 per person, it's hard to say no.  : )
